About
A Note from Our Founder
Hi, Pearl here! I am an artist, calligrapher, illustrator, graphic designer, and established digital marketing leader. I have always loved creating with my own two hands for as long as I can remember and after an awesome 20+ years career in corporate, leading various Marketing teams at renown brands, I now pursue art and entrepreneurship full time.
I originally started selling greeting cards in 2018 out of our Brooklyn home as a new mom of two to support moms in their breastfeeding journey. In 2024, re-launched Dear Daughters Design in our now New Jersey studio, with hand-drawn and hand-lettered art. As we enter the next few years, I look forward to expanding offerings. Your support of our small business means the world -- thank you!
Becoming an artist and building a business in your forties is an exhilarating journey. Follow @pearllui on Instagram to get a glimpse of my path and stay up to date about my small business at @deardaughtersdesign.

The mission of Dear Daughters Design is to create a kinder and more sustainable world.
- Art & Calligraphy: We aim to inspire human kindness while building confidence in children through hand-lettered encouragement. Supporting a more sustainable world, we invite curiosity in showcasing natural wonders through hand-painted visual art and illustrations.
- Business Coaching & Consulting: We hope to create a vibrant local and small business community that lifts each other up, by helping artists, creative entrepreneurs, and small businesses start and develop their online brand. With over 12 years leading Marketing at Etsy, my heart remains strongly standing with creators who wish to make a living from their talents and hard work.
We aim to inspire and uplift, fostering a community where love and kindness thrive, allowing everyone to shine and celebrate human connection. Join us in making a lasting difference, one brushstroke, word, and story at a time.
Culture & Commitment
Dear Daughters Design is a female-owned AAPI small business based in New Jersey. Originating from Brooklyn, New York, it started with a hand-painted card to support new moms and their breastfeeding journey. It has now evolved into promoting kindness and growth through inspirational art and affirmation greeting cards where each design reflects messages of empowerment and love.
We are committed to making a positive impact with products that brighten special occasions and the everyday with sustainable practices, where possible. All items are designed for quality and are printed in the USA. Our well-loved greeting cards often featuring uplifting phrases and delicate florals are proudly made in the USA and ships directly from our art studio. All other items are printed and fulfilled by trusted partners within the Printify and Printful network, shipping directly from the printer to your doorstep for a lower carbon footprint.
About the Artist & Founder, Pearl Lui
Pearl Lui is an artist, modern calligrapher, illustrator, and graphic designer based in the New York / New Jersey area. She always loved creating with her own two hands for as long as she could remember. Born and bred in NYC, hailing from the walks of Chinatown and Little Italy in Manhattan to the most culturally diverse parts of Queens and Brooklyn, she carries a spectrum of memories of the Empire State. The fortitude required as a daughter of immigrants to grow up in the streets of the city where she soaked in the vibrant urban scape filled with murals and graffiti to the treasures in esteemed museums and fragrant utopias found in botanical gardens, her art strives to capture the balance of bold and delicate energy in a moment of quietude.
After a 20+ years retail and digital marketing career at renown brands such as Bloomingdales, Gilt, and Etsy, leading various Marketing teams, she now pursues art full time and runs her small business at DearDaughtersDesign.com in the beautiful Garden State. Pearl holds a BBA in CIS minoring in Graphic Communications. She is currently pursuing a Natural Sciences Illustration Certificate, a Rhode Island School of Design Continuing Education program. Expected completion, Spring 2026.
Pearl's family is a colossal part of her inspiration -- her mom, an oil painter and hobby dressmaker, and her late dad, a calligrapher and signage craftsman. Her father owned a small business for over 15 years in New York City prior to the internet boom, which heavily influences her passion to help creative entrepreneurs. Her husband plays the role of the shipping director, while her daughters act as the ever-enthusiastic critics. 🙂 And let’s not forget her German Shepherds, the official art studio snoozers! Thanks for joining us on this wonderful journey!

Artist Statement
I am a multi-faceted artist, with a voracious appetite to create, exploring a diverse range of creative expressions, from the delicate beauty of nature to the expressive power of the human form. Drawn to the intricate details and subtle nuances of organic forms and the human figure, my practice includes ink, watercolor, gouache, and collage. Deeply influenced by the expressive simplicity of traditional Chinese ink wash painting, I strive to express the energy and movement within the subject with fluidity and spontaneity. I invite you to trace the lyrical lines and engage with the underlying energy and quietude inherent in the subject.
Beyond visual art, I find joy in the power of words, expressing encouragement through modern calligraphy and hand-lettering. I also hold a special place for the playful and whimsical, creating illustrations that bring smiles and warmth to your heart. I hope to create a kinder and more sustainable world through all of my creative expressions.
