Our Story
My heart raced and I gently closed my eyes as the thunderous waves pounded the sand. Though loud, I sat quietly and unafraid. With a deep breath, I was fully engulfed by the warm, golden sun rays on my back. I daydreamed and found comfort somewhere between scientific observation and noticing the whimsy in nature.
That was over 40 years ago. After a corporate career of over 20 years, I made the leap in 2024 to begin painting portraits of the sea, the bees, and the caprines. The lure to capture fleeting emotions from observing nature that once flooded my mind now flows onto my canvases. With maturity, seasonality feels brief, and I don't want to forget a single lucky moment we have with Mother Nature.

I'm Pearl, the Botanical & Wildlife Artist & Calligrapher behind Dear Daughters Design. I launch monthly drops of Hand-Painted Moody Botanicals & Wildlife Portraits, whimsical greeting cards at The Co-Lab in South Orange, and I teach calligraphy & watercolor locally. The name "Dear Daughters" is a salutation to all women, inspired by the heartfelt tradition of letter-writing, memory keeping, and my mission to promote kindness. My work is rooted in a deep respect for nature and a desire to revive the lost art of handwriting through calligraphy workshops—empowering you to slow down and learn an analog skill. My art blends expressive strokes and scientific observation with a touch of whimsy, drawing influence from nature and traditional Chinese ink painting. Whether I'm illustrating bees wrapped in anemone, capturing the beauty of the sea and its shells, or creating a personalized keepsake, every piece strives to illuminate life's beauty through the vibrant, expressive power of the human hand. |
