Frequently Asked Questions
What types of commissions do you accept? We specialize in a variety of creative projects, including hand lettering, painting, illustrations, free-hand engraving, monogramming, invitation design, and modern calligraphy. We can also discuss custom projects or a combination of these styles to fit your needs.
How do I start a commission project with you? The best way to get started is by contacting us to discuss your vision. We'll chat about the size, style, and subject matter of the piece, as well as any specific deadlines you have. Once we agree on the details, we'll send you a project proposal and a quote. Email us at info@deardaughtersdesign.com or contact us to get started.
How long does a commission take to complete? The timeline for a commission varies depending on the complexity of the project, our current workload, and the number of revisions. We can give you a more accurate estimate after our initial discussion, but generally, projects take at least 2-4 weeks from the time of booking.
What is the payment process and how do I secure my commission? To secure your reserved slot and begin the creative process, a 50% non-refundable deposit is required. This deposit formally reserves the dedicated time in our schedule for your commission and ensures that no other work is accepted for your project's timeframe, because we operate on a first-come, first-served basis as a small business. The deposit also covers initial project planning, administrative overhead, and the procurement of necessary materials.
What if I need to cancel my commission? We understand that plans can change. Due to the time and materials invested in each project, the initial 50% deposit is non-refundable if you choose to cancel.
Do you provide mockups or drafts for approval? Yes, we want you to be happy with the final piece! Once the deposit is received, we will create a preliminary mock-up or sketch for your review and approval digitally. Your commission includes two rounds of revisions on this initial draft. This allows us to make minor adjustments to elements like layout, color, or wording. Any additional revisions or significant changes requested after the two rounds will be subject to an extra design fee. To ensure you receive your item in an efficient manner, we request all wording to be exact for calligraphy requests.
Can you work from a photograph or specific inspiration? Absolutely! We can use a favorite photograph, a specific color palette, or a particular theme as inspiration for your piece. We'll work with you to ensure the final artwork captures the feeling and details you're looking for. We cannot duplicate or copy work of other artists.
How do you handle shipping and delivery? Once the final payment is received, your artwork will be carefully packaged and shipped to you. Shipping costs will be included in your final quote. For local clients, a pick-up or delivery option may be available.
